How to Keep Yourself MotivatedWillpower is one of the essential factors in achieving success and, at some point in time, discouragement and lack of motivation may hinder you from reaching your objective. For that reason, it is up to you, and you alone to devise techniques that will help you keep your willpower at peak efficiency.

It is beneficial to have visual goals to aid you whatsoever it is that you are working towards. Perhaps it is something material like a new car, or a well deserved vacation you have been looking forward to.

Place a picture of whatever it is in a conspicuous location at work or at home where you can see it often. When life leaves you feeling discouraged let this be a reminder of your goal and it will help you maintain your focus.

Make a contract with yourself. According to motivational research, people who write to-do-lists are far more successful in achieving their intended goals than those who just keep a mental list of everything instead. Write down all of your goals and you are more likely to reach them.

Putting something in writing somehow makes it more powerful and enabling, psychologically speaking. This may also be the basis why most cultures have such a high regard in honoring contracts. In the contract, you may also include a certain reward that you will give yourself once you have accomplished the task – the carrot on a stick, as it may be.

And, after all, everyone likes to be rewarded for completing a good job. Even a simple pat on the back, “good job”, or “thank you” may be the incentive to give a person the additional push to carry on. Unfortunately, in contemporary society, these may not always be readily available or forthcoming. Considering that these are also central in keeping yourself motivated, you must learn how to find a way to obtain that encouragement on your own through satisfying yourself.

Abusive and dominating people lower your self-esteem and bring you down. Get these negative people out of your life as quickly as possible. Surround yourself with positive people and those that think as you do or as you wish to. Duplicate their example. Smile abundantly and think happy thoughts.

These will give you a brighter outlook and lets you see a clearer picture of what you really want and provides a fresh perspective to know what steps to take to get you there. Rather than waiting for things to happen, try to be proactive and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Inactivity keeps the brain idle and stagnate your potential for reaching your goals.

Read inspirational books and literature. These will assist you to improve your attitude and heal your mind. A book of success stories also proves to be encouraging. Not only will you learn from others’ experiences and derive confidence boosting insights from them but the story will also be instrumental in motivating you to reach your goals and move forward with your plans. If this still seems to falter, get training or education to support your knowledge and craving to get what you desire.

Quite frequently, not knowing how or where to start is most frustrating. Take heart in knowing that knowledge is power. Having a clear understanding of how and where to start is enormously empowering and it will provide the extra drive needed to hit the mark you are aiming at and follow it through to completion.

If, after having understood all these tips to attain self-motivation, but still feel like you are lacking that much needed drive, there is one last thing that you can try.

Whatever your goals are, whatever it is you desire achieve, JUST DO IT! Keep on aiming high and go for it. Actually getting your hands dirty best solves the problem of motivation. By “forcing” yourself to just do it, your momentum will pick up gradually as you go along and before you know it you have finished the task or have finally achieved your goal. The journey of a thousand miles begins but with one step.

Divide and conquer. Break down the burdensome or intimidating activity into small doable steps. Not only does it become less overwhelming, but seeing the “in the meantime” results will help to further your confidence that it can indeed be done.

Lack of motivation happens to us all, but if you do not encourage yourself to seek out opportunities to be challenged, no one else will. It is most important to keep your eyes on the prize, find ways to keep going, and in no time, you shall reap its benefits. If you sit in one place and wish for something to happen, you will be in one place for a long while.

And, if at the beginning you were just doing something for the simplistic material reward, you will also come to the gratifying realization that the fulfillment, satisfaction, and self-achievement you receive from actively reaching your goal is a much more enjoyable reward, and that will keep the drive within constantly burning brightly.
